Family had been searching for slain Raleigh man
Family members of a Raleigh man who might have been dead inside his home for nearly two years say they had been searching long before investigators found his body this month.
Posted — UpdatedA Wake County sheriff’s investigator looking into the disappearance of David Ruben Green Jr., 52, discovered his decapitated body Oct. 6 in a freezer in the basement of his Ray Road home.
According to search warrants, investigators estimate Green might have been dead since January 2009.
He reported his brother missing to the Wake County Sheriff’s Office on Sept. 1.
“Our attempts to locate David Jr. started well before filing a missing persons report,” Avery Green said. “It has been a long and arduous journey that ended with the authorities discovering his remains in his home.”
Search warrants indicate he suffered severe injuries from several weapons and cutting instruments. Sources, speaking to WRAL News on the condition they not be revealed, said Green’s decapitated head was found with the body and that it had likely been cut off so that the body would fit inside the freezer.
A preliminary autopsy report found David Green’s cause of death to be severe head trauma.
His longtime girlfriend and mother of his two children, Wendy Edmond Green, 41, faces charges of first-degree murder and conspiracy to commit murder.
Their two children, David Ruben Green III, 15, and Alexis Green, 17, face the same charges.
Investigators haven’t offered a motive in the killing.
“David Jr. was a wonderful, loving son, brother, cousin and friend to all that knew him. His memory deserves dignity and respect,” Avery Green said. “We are deeply saddened by the loss of David Jr. at the hands of those he loved most.”
