RALEIGH, N.C. — The father of a 23-year-old man who was severely beaten outside a Raleigh bar early Thursday is asking people to come forward with information.

Evan Benjamin Lawrence left the Jackpot Bar, at 1303 Hillsborough St., early Thursday and was involved in an altercation a short time later, police said.

He suffered serious head trauma and underwent about three hours of surgery at Rex Hospital, according to his father, Ben Lawrence, who said his son appears to be improving every day.

"Any bit of information, however small, whether you think it's important or not, please be strong enough and care enough to come forward and let us know," said Ben Lawrence.

A witness reported seeing two women and a man who appeared to be providing aid to Lawrence, and police said the three unidentified people might have witnessed the events that led to his injuries.

Anyone with information that might help in the investigation is asked to call Raleigh Crime Stoppers at 919-834-HELP or the Raleigh Police Department’s Detective Division at 919-996-3555.
