MEBANE, N.C. — Thousands of job seekers descended upon the Mebane Arts & Community Center on Thursday for a Tanger Outlets job fair.

The fair was being held from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. at 622 Corregidor St. More than 800 full- and part-time retail positions were available.

About 200 people were allowed inside by 11:15 a.m., and thousands showed up before the day was over.

"It's worth the chance and worth standing in line," said Durham resident Quentin Yelverton.

"You just have to hope that you have something more to bring to the table than the other 2 million people that are here, it seems like," said fellow job seeker Ryan Rendleman.

Alamance County will be a shopping destination when the new outlet mall opens off Interstate 40/85 in Mebane on Nov. 5. It will have 80 stores with more than 300,000 feet of retail space.
