Cary police up patrols after reports of suspicious truck

Posted August 25, 2010

Cary police are stepping up patrols in one neighborhood after receiving a report Tuesday about a suspicious white pickup truck near Galsworthy Street.

Capt. Mike Williams said Wednesday that investigators don't have a lot of information about the truck and that they hope an increased police presence can help them better understand the circumstances surrounding Tuesday's report.

Police received a similar report on Sunday, Williams said, but he declined to comment on the details involving that incident.

Rehab Hamad said her children were playing in the front yard Tuesday afternoon when she arrived home and noticed a man in a white pickup truck parked nearby.

She said that, when the man saw her, he immediately left.

Neighbors also reported the truck traveling at a slow speed around 4 p.m. Tuesday, the same time children get home from school.

Williams urged parents to be vigilant when their children are outside playing and to report suspicious activity to police.

This is great, just like last year when "a man driving a white suv" etc. etc. Well I had a white suv then and a white pickup truck now.

How about some additional descriptions? White, Hispanic, Black? Blond, brunette, red head, bald? Beard, mustache, clean shaven?

Why didn't you get a picture with your cell phone camera?

Why didn't you get in your car and follow the truck and call 911?

What are you going to do next time?

This same person has attempted to lure young girls into his truck in two different subdivisions in Holly Springs this week, one neighborhood being mine. I really hope those readers with sarcastic replies don't have children. And I hope they feel really stupid for commenting on something that could quite possibly turn out badly if nothing is done.

He turned up again in Holly Springs today, doing the same thing and you have the nerve to say he's not doing anything suspicious?!?

Bendal1, if you'll give me your address, I'll get in my white pickup and come sit in front of your house for a while, minding my own business of course, and see if you still feel entirely comfortable.

Bendal1 - are you from the North???? Yeah right I am going to park in a residential neighborhood and get some shuteye...........boy are you naive!!!!

    TrueBlueRep,

Until it's illegal to sit in a parked car on a public street, this guy's done nothing wrong. It's the paranoid, fear-ruled busybodies that are causing all the trouble; most kids are abused by relatives, not strangers as well. I'm still thinking this guy was taking a nap or answering a phone call and perhaps realized "here come the busybodies" and drove off when he noticed people staring at him.

"do all these companies take off when approached? Why would they unless they were doing something wrong or illegal." -TrueBlueRep

Many such trucks frequently "take off" whether or not they are approached by anyone.

I'm sure the astute observer(s) DID record the license tag number of the vehicle and provided that to the authorities, along with a photograph taken with their ever-present cell phone?

And lets not forget BellSouth in their white pick up trucks.

I wonder if it was a white pick up with green lettering. Just like the kind of trucks that the town of Cary has...

And yes, they do drive around to read the water meter. Progress Energy drives white pick ups when they do their meter reading. Same with PSNC with their white pick up trucks.

And lets not forget BellSouth in their white pick up trucks.

"Since when did sitting on a public street become illegal?" - Iworkforaliving

...about the same time painting your home/business an "unapproved" color became illegal...

Gotta run now and call 911 - there is some dude with a computer sitting in a white pickup truck two houses down the street
