Man dies after Raleigh double shooting

Posted August 4, 2010

— A double shooting outside a Raleigh home Tuesday night left one man dead and another wounded, police spokesman Jim Sughrue said.

Sughrue said that Ezekiel Abanishe Crowder, 30, and Marcus Qutavis McClenningham, 30, were sitting on the porch of a home at 609 Hay Lane around 10 p.m.

"Someone walked up to the house and just started shooting,” police Capt. Chris Bertram said. Neighbors said they heard a series of gunshots.

Crowder suffered critical injuries and was taken to WakeMed, where he died. McClenningham was shot in the arm and treated for non-life-threatening injuries. He was released from the hospital Wednesday evening.

State Department of Correction records show McClenningham has convictions for breaking-and-entering, larceny and possession of drug paraphernalia from incidents in 2002 and 2003.

Investigators spent the night combing the scene for evidence and talking to witnesses.

Detectives asked for help from the public in identifying the suspect, whom Sughrue described as a black man with a dark complexion in his late teens or early 20s, about 5 feet 6 inches tall with a thin build. He was last seen wearing a white T-shirt and a black do-rag.

Anyone with information is asked to call the Raleigh Police Department at 919-996-3555 or Raleigh Crime Stoppers at 919-834-4357. Crime Stoppers pays cash rewards for anonymous tips that help solve cases.

There are many instance where some people just don't need a gun in their hand, on them or being around a weapon. This is what happens when certain people don't know the proper use for a gun besides taking a life. May they find this person and give him his justice.

Higness69, I love how you sound exactly how the, as you would put it, imitation gang members, defend their "gang" when accused of being in a gang. Shoot, you almost sound as defensive about "gangs" as the white supremacist biker did when I questioned if he was in a biker gang, and he adamantly said it was a "biker club"..... Just because there are "rules" to gangs doesn't make them any less absurd, or stupid. Let the media continue to demonize them, because gangs, at the heart, are stupid and for followers who are seeking love and attention from the wrong places.

Went to school and played sports with Zeke. He was a stand up guy that had numerous friends throughout all social cliques in high school. Its a shame a military pic could not have been posted. If you can't speak respectfully about someone's death just don't speak at all, especially if you did not know him. You are going to be missed forever Zeke. Thanks for being a friend. God Bless!!

Zeke was good people, I know and grew up down the street from his cousins. Zeke and I played ball not only throught rec. leagues at Biltmore Hills, but we played together in high school too. This guy could jump out the gym and don't be caught anywhere near the basket... You'd get dunked on. He was also a running back on the football team. He was a good dude, always smiling, 3 kids, that he worked hard to take care of, and he will be missed. I will be at his funeral.

And what I have wanted to say allllll day before I got on the defense on how this man was being portrayed IS...RIP Zeke. I knew him, know the Crowder family, and MANY prayers to them. He will be missed.

Remember this could have been you or a family member. For the sake of everyone, I hope they find the involved and prosecute them to the fullest.

My heart and prayers go out to his family... Shame on you WRAL for posting mugshots. If we want to see mugshots, we'll just buy the slammer.

I think the mug shots pics were all of McClenningham. If you read the article, Crowder had no convictions so he probably did not have a mug shot. the pics of him look like personal pics.
