— Knightdale police say they still have no leads in the assault and robbery of a 69-year-old grandmother in an Applebee's parking lot on Sunday.

Wilma Creech said she was walking from her car to the Knightdale Boulevard restaurant around lunchtime when a man approached from behind, caught her by surprise and grabbed her purse.

"I evidently had a tight hold on it, and he pulled me so that it turned me back around," Creech said.

She fell and hit her head on the concrete. She suffered bruises, scratches and a broken arm.

Police said the robber fled the scene in an older model Ford Ranger, blue or green in color, with heavy damage to the rear.

Anyone with information that could assist in the investigation is asked to call the Knightdale Public Safety Department at 919-217-2261.

Creech said she will meet next week with a surgeon to discuss the options for her broken arm.

A self-described fighter, Creech said she's faced much tougher obstacles.

In 2001, she battled a brain tumor, and in 2007, she fought breast cancer.

"If I had my cane, I might've been able to trip him," she said.

"If she had been able to shoot the criminal she would be the one being charged right now."

If she had a gun, where do you think she would've kept it? In her purse, perhaps? So, since she's just walking along, and all the sudden her purse gets grabbed from behind...guess what, the criminal now has her gun!!!

"Write to your legislators and demand that they pass a Castle Doctrine law for North Carolina"

I don't think that would apply to getting mugged in a parking lot...

The more I think about it this is pretty brazen. Broad daylight, at a fairly large shopping complex. If I remeber correctly this is the same place the dominos manager was shot. If I was KPD I would step it up. I for one will not be going in that are any more. (Sorry businesses)

Thats a pretty cowardly move, to take something forcibly from a 69 year old grandma who obviously is defenseless and weak.

Poor woman, was nobody out in the parking lot when she was that could have helped her?

I don't get it. How are we supposed to help apprehend these criminals if we have no description of them. What's going on?

If she had been able to shoot the criminal she would be the one being charged right now. Write to your legislators and demand that they pass a Castle Doctrine law for North Carolina. Criminals need to be put on notice.
