One dead, two injured in Durham shooting

Posted June 28, 2010

— A multiple shooting early Monday at Pinecrest apartments, 608 Hardee St., left one man dead and two men injured, according to Durham police.

"The names are not being released at this time. No charges have been filed," police spokeswoman Kammie Michael said in a statement.

Officers were patrolling near the apartment complex around 3:10 a.m. when they heard several shots.

"One male died from his wounds. The other two males were taken to Duke University Hospital for treatment – one suffered serious injuries and the other man's injuries do not appear to be life-threatening," Michael said.

Witness Solomon Townsend said he heard the gunshots.

"We immediately dropped to the floor and then I went to the door to try to see what was going on, and the guy actually tried to come in our door and I just closed the door and we called the police," he said.

Anyone with information is asked to call Investigator Robinson at 919-560-4440, ext. 29335, or Crime Stoppers at 683-1200.

Crime Stoppers pays cash rewards for information leading to arrests in felony cases and callers never have to identify themselves.

I live in a apt in RTP. Over the last 3 years more and more cops are showing up in the complex and more and more of my neighbors cannot speak English and more and more car break ins, assaults, and oh yeah, the "gunshot" at the pool.
Hey, as long as they enforce the 'no cigaretts' on the sidewalk ban and not the beer bottle smashed on the sidewalks or through the car window, apt window and the like - that's fine.
I smell the drugs, hear the rap, see the booze and drunks at all hours now.
Yeah, I think Durham is a fine community. Glad the lease is up soon.

Stay away from certain sections of Durham and you'll probably be safe. The same goes for Raleigh. I've lived in both cities.

souljp1...you may leave anytime. I doubt you will be missed.

oldrwizr....I was born and raised in the triangle. so you are not the only (although there is probably very few of us) one that has lived here for a while. Durham is the last place in or near the triangle that I want to ever go. It sucks I work in RTP and have to drive past it but oh well. Don't worry us "rednecks" will stay away from the arm pit of the state, it's all yours.
