Sanford man, son argued before shooting
Neil Miller, 71, called 911 Friday at 11:30 p.m. to report someone walking around his house at 4613 Carbonton Road. By the time authorities arrived, Miller’s son, Ricky Dean Miller, lay dead in the yard.

Neil Miller, 71, called 911 Friday at 11:30 p.m. to report someone walking around his house at 4613 Carbonton Road. By the time authorities arrived, his son, Ricky Dean Miller, lay dead in the yard.
In the 911 call, Neil Miller accuses his son of being drunk. The two exchange threats, and Neil Miller tells the dispatcher his son has broken the door.
Neil Miller later told authorities that he felt his life was in danger, so he got a shotgun and fired through a hole in the door.
Investigators said that Ricky Miller was shot once in the chest and pronounced dead at the scene. He was not armed.
Neil Miller told investigators his son had come to live with him after being released from a Virginia prison five months ago. The father said that he told his son to leave the house a week ago and didn't see him again until Friday night.
Investigators took Neil Miller into custody and released him after questioning.
