RALEIGH, N.C. — A Wake County woman was killed Sunday night when a massive oak tree fell into a house on Rock Quarry Road.

“It sounded like a transformer had blew and when I looked out the tree was over into the house,” witness Selina Patton said Monday morning.

Jeff Hammerstein, district chief for Wake County EMS, said Sabrina Allen, 32, was sleeping in a bedroom in the rear of the home, at 5332 Rock Quarry Road, when the tree fell. She died instantly.

Two other people in the home were transported to a local hospital with minor injuries. Hammerstein said a powerful storm moving through the area likely caused the tree to fall.

The Wake County Sheriff's Office is investigating the death. They said it appears to be an accident.

An expert who analyzed the tree told WRAL News on Monday that the tree appeared to have a double trunk. Part of the tree fell this past winter. He said it is possible that water collected in the trunk and caused the tree to rot.
