Clayton holds community meeting on fires

Clayton authorities held a community meeting Wednesday evening to discuss a recent rash of suspicious fires.

CLAYTON, N.C. — Clayton authorities held a community meeting Wednesday evening to discuss a recent rash of suspicious fires.

Police and fire investigators, as well as agents with the State Bureau of Investigation, met at Powhatan Elementary School.

Clayton police and fire personnel offered crime and fire prevention tips and details about forming a Neighborhood Watch program. Authorities also provided information concerning a $10,000 reward being offered in the case.

Six homes under construction and a day care under construction have burned since the end of October. A 13-year-old was charged with the day care fire, but the other incidents remain under investigation.
