16-year-old arrested in high-speed Raleigh chase

Authorities charged Jamie King with felonies for eluding a trooper and hit-and-run. He also faces misdemeanor charges for speeding, driving without a license and hitting the trooper's car.

Trooper Quintin Stanton said he clocked King going 78 mph in a 45-mph zone on New Hope Road. Stanton followed him, activated the sirens, got on the intercom and gestured for him to pull over, all of which King ignored, Stanton said.

Speeds reached up to 100 mph before the 16-year-old cut through a gas station and crashed into a car, injuring a passenger. He then backed up and crashed into Stanton's patrol car, according to Stanton.

King then drove through a residential neighborhood three or four times, going approximately 50 mph, and side-swiped the trooper's vehicle while trying to do a U-turn, Stanton said.

He eventually stopped on Eagles Landing Drive and was arrested without incident. Stanton said the 16-year-old had no license and may have been on the phone with his father, who drove up immediately after King stopped.
