Spring Lake, N.C. — Five people are facing charges after a fight Friday on a Cumberland County school bus.
Investigators said the bus was en route from Mae Rudd Williams School in Spring Lake when a fight broke out between Taquaysha Miles, 16, of 5733 Scrub Oak Court, and a 15-year-old classmate.
The pair had been involved in an argument earlier in the week, officials said.
Deputies say Miles sent a text message to her mother, Sharon Gillian, 44, and 19-year-old sister, Arterla Gillian, who both met the bus, boarded and joined the affray.
Authorities said Arterla Gillian allegedly had a knife in her possession and attempted to assault the student with it but failed.
The 15-year old student’s mother, Sunie Dean, 36, of 1605 Boros Drive, also became involved in the dispute at the bus stop.
All of the suspects fled the scene before police arrived. They were later apprehended by police and members of the Cumberland County Sheriff’s Office.
Miles and her mother are charged with assault and trespassing on a school bus. Arterla Gillian has been charged with assault with a deadly weapon and possession of a weapon on a school bus.
The 15-year old student and her mother have been charged with resist delay and obstruct.
All were taken to the Cumberland County Detention Center.
