Tanker truck carrying fuel overturns in Johnston County

Posted April 22, 2010

— A tanker truck carrying 9,000 gallons of fuel overturned on U.S. Highway 701 early Thursday after the driver's headlights malfunctioned and went out, according to authorities on the scene.

The crash happened around 2:30 a.m. near Keen Road. Deputies reopened the road by 8:45 a.m.

The driver, whose name was not released, survived the crash. After his lights went out, the driver hit the brakes and the truck rolled over onto the shoulder.

Crews worked to get the tractor-trailer up-righted. No fuel spilled out of the truck, according to environmental clean-up crews on the scene.

Wow skyward...why don't you become more informed about the incident before you start making assumptions that have no bases behind them.

I thank God the driver was not hurt!

Why is it that ever time something happens in johnston county this news station does not identify what part?? Thats like saying "School board member killed in Wake county" or "Shooting in Durham county". There are many towns in Johnston county! Lets get it together!!

To those who think its only johston county....i can almost garentee(not spelled right i know) you that every county has at least 3 wrecks a day. Whether they are reported on the radio, or new or not.

It's amazing no fuel was spilled. But, these hazards to our community, earth, neighbors & neighborhoods...like the oil rig & oil tanker spills...need to be relegated to our past.

These incidents are more reason to work toward viable solar & wind solutions.

Glad the driver is okay and no one else was involved. I agree, there does seem to be tons of wrecks daily in Johnston Co. For awhile there, it seemed that they had a lot of wrecks involving teenagers too.
