Charges filed after Henderson man found dead in car

Officers were called to the store shortly after 3 a.m. Sunday. They found Sedrick Williams, 23, of Henderson, inside a vehicle. He had been shot and was pronounced dead at the scene, police spokesman Jim Sughrue said.

Officers later determined that the shooting occurred earlier in the morning near Pericos nightclub, 2414 Paula St.

Williams and Tobarus Oneal Alston, 33, of Henderson, had been asked by nightclub security guard Shontavius Levon Brown, 35, to leave the premises, Sughrue said.

Williams and Alston got into a vehicle, and Alston drove to the front of Pericos. Alston got out of the vehicle and exchanged gunfire with Brown on the street in front of the nightclub, Sughrue said.

Alston then drove the vehicle to the Kangaroo store, where police were called to investigate, Sughrue said.

Police on Sunday charged Alston with assault with a deadly weapon with intent to kill for his role in the gunfire exchange. He was also charged with possession of a firearm by a convicted felon.

Alston was being held Sunday in the Wake County jail.

Sughrue said detectives were looking into any actions Brown may have taken related to the shooting.

It was not yet clear how Williams was shot, or what role he had in the gunfire exchange.

Patrons, employees and security guards did not call 911 about the gunfire at the Pericos nightclub, Sughrue added.
