— Authorities arrested a 38-year-old man and his 19-year-old nephew in Lee County early Thursday after a chase through Wake and Chatham counties.

Cary police officers spotted a Budget Rental truck behind Wal-Mart on Kildaire Farm Road around 12:30 a.m. When they tried to stop the truck, the driver took off, authorities said.

Apex police took over the chase on U.S. Highway 1, and speeds reached about 85 miles per hour, authorities said. Deputies put out stop sticks in Lee County, which is where the chase ended.

The two men in the truck – Ricky McCoy Jacobs and his nephew, D'Andre K. Jacobs – jumped out and ran, but authorities quickly captured them. No one was hurt.

Authorities say the men stole wooden pallets from Wal-Mart.

D'Andre Jacobs was charged with two counts of felony larceny and resisting, delaying and obstructing a public officer. Bond was set at $6,000. Ricky Jacobs' charges were not immediately available.

    What happened here?

Why did Cary PD start a pursuit for a felony larceny and then back out of it and let another jurisdiction do the hard job? If they are gonna hand them over to other departments then don't start them to begin with. Just write them a letter to turn themselves in.

I wish they would come rob my store of wooden pallets. We're having a real problem getting rid of them, and they're piling up every week! We can't even GIVE them away! Must be the plastic ones they were stealing - otherwise, this is the most blatant crime fail I have ever seen.

OK, I surrender on my comment about where these nitwits graduated school. I was just guessing Wake Co because that's where they started their little enterprise. Let's just say these two probably weren't voted "most likely to succeed" wherever they went to school. And for full disclosure, I graduated from Wake Co schools.
