— A tractor-trailer driver died Wednesday morning after his truck crashed on Interstate 85 South in Alamance County and went down an embankment into a river.

Authorities did not release his name.

The crash happened around 8:15 a.m. near Jimmie Kerr Road near Graham, according to WFMY News 2 in Greensboro. The cab of the tractor-trailer was submerged underwater, but crews were able to pull it out of the river.

Two of four lanes of I-85 South were closed at mile marker 150 and were not expected to reopen until mid-afternoon.

A witness told troopers that the Western Express truck, which was hauling bottled water, had stopped at a nearby Pilot gas station shortly before the crash.

State Department of Transportation officials called in a crew to help clean up the fuel and bottled water that spilled into the creek.

I am confused by the reader's comments. The article says the driver died. What do the comments mean about hoping to find the driver alive?

Stuff like this is what makes me worry about my truck-driving husband - I hope this driver is okay. IF he did get out, he sure needs to let somebody know.
