— Wendell police returned a runaway boy to his parents Tuesday evening.

Jason Little, 9, ran away from his home on Cook Street just before noon Tuesday.

"We were getting phone calls all evening, spotting him in different locations. Of course, it wasn't confirmed. So I think he was moving around quite a bit," Wendell Police Chief Vance Johnson said.

Authorities said firefighters found Jason walking on N.C. Highway 97 near Wendell Middle School around 8 p.m. He appeared to be in good condition.

The boy's father, who his also named Jason Little, said he recently moved back to the area to be closer to his son.

"Words can't describe how I feel right now," Little said. "It's just relief."

Johnson said the police department is familiar with Jason, who has run away half-dozen times in the past six years.

"We're gonna involve child protective services and make sure those resources are used to make sure he's getting anything he needs," Johnson said.

wonder what he is running from?

Glad the young one was found; however, this situation needs to be looked into by SS to obtain more information as to why this child feels he needs to run away from his home.

He is a friends neighbor and from what he said, there has been accusations of an abusive adult in the home. I hope CPS can help this child.

Ok, here's something to think about. If he's 9 now and has run away a half dozen time during the last 6 years, maybe someone should ask what he's running away from. He's been running away since he was 3 years old. Why hasn't DSS been called in before this? There is definitely something wrong with this child &/or family and someone should be looking into it before we read about a death associated with this family.

A 9 year old has been running away for 6 years??? If that's not a cry for help from this child, I don't know what is!

My wife does local mission work, and she says that she thinks she knows this family, and the little boy is autistic. Police and Sheriff's Dept have been calling all local merchants, asking them to search their premises, trash dumps, under cars, etc. We live near Wendell, and I hear a helicopter overhead right now. Let's all pray that they find him.

This is not the first time he's run away. Does anyone know why he ran before? I hope he's found safe and soon, because it's really cold out, and of course that's only one of the dangers.
