HILLSBOROUGH, N.C. — An armed robbery inside a Hillsborough club late Saturday led to a shooting that killed one person and left two others wounded, according to the Orange County Sheriff's Office.

Emergency dispatchers got multiple calls that several people had been shot or stabbed during a robbery at the Platinum Royale North Carolina, 2600 N.C. Highway 86 North, at 11:50 p.m.

Inside the club, deputies found two men and a woman who had been shot. All three were transported to Duke University Medical Center, where one man died.

The man who survived was shot in the buttocks, and the woman was shot in the leg, deputies said. The identities of the victims were withheld, pending notification of family.

The shooting occurred inside the club and the robbers fled before authorities arrived, deputies said. It is unclear what direction the robbers left in or where they were on foot or in a vehicle. Investigators believe it was a random crime.

Platinum Royale's Web site describes it as a strip club.

Deputies said the investigation was ongoing.

Anyone with information should call the Orange County Sheriff's Office at 919-644-3050.
