Fayetteville man killed in robbery; suspect sought

An 18-year-old Fayetteville man is wanted on charges that he shot and killed one man and assaulted another during a robbery at their home shortly after noon Wednesday.

FAYETTEVILLE, N.C. — An 18-year-old Fayetteville man is wanted on charges that he shot and killed one man and assaulted another during a robbery at their home shortly after noon Wednesday.

Investigators believe that Christopher Andrew Alexander killed Jason Lee Smith at his 6111 Regis Court home. Emanual Gantlin, 26, who also lives at the house, was assaulted and injured by Alexander, police said.

Alexander is wanted on charges of first-degree murder, attempted first-degree murder, robbery with a dangerous weapon, attempt to commit robbery with a dangerous weapon and conspiracy to commit robbery with a dangerous weapon.

Police said the investigation is ongoing, but there is no cause for public concern.

Anyone with information about Alexander's whereabouts should call Fayetteville police at 910-433-1856 or Crime Stoppers at 910-483-8477. Callers to Crime Stoppers can leave an anonymous tip and are eligible for up to a $1,000 reward.

Alexander was put on probation for a 2007 conviction for communicating threats, according to state Department of Correction records.
