RALEIGH, N.C. — The sister of a Raleigh nurse who was killed Wednesday night in a head-on collision expressed outrage Friday that the man charged in her death was released on bond.

Aleksey Glazunov, 24, of 3521 Piedmont Drive, was charged with misdemeanor death by motor vehicle and aggressive driving in the wreck that killed Teresa Bagley Weintraub.

Police said Glazunov was passing another vehicle on Skycrest Drive when he lost control and slammed head-on into Weintraub's car near the Brentwood Road intersection.

Weintraub, 57, was on her way to work at Duke Raleigh Hospital when she died, police said.

"I love my sister with all my heart. She was my friend. I don't know what I'm going to do without her. We love her. She will be truly missed," Cathy Hogg said. "She loves the Lord with all her heart, and I know she's in heaven. That's a blessing."

Glazunov apologized Friday to Weintraub's family, but declined to discuss the case further.

Copies of Glazunov's arrest record obtained by WRAL News show a history of speeding violations. The temporary tag on his vehicle was issued the day of the accident.

Still, he was released after posting a $2,000 bond.

"Justice needs to be done. You can't just go out there and drive reckless on the road and kill somebody's family member," Hogg said.

Glazunov could face up to five months in jail if convicted in the case. Before legislators toughened the penalty for a misdemeanor death by motor vehicle conviction this summer, the charge carried a maximum of four months behind bars.

Wake County District Judge Jane Gray said no amount of jail time would ever satisfy the family of a victim.

Glazunov's trial is set for Dec. 21.
