Fort Hood shooter was on orders to deploy with Durham-based unit
A U.S. Army spokesman says the man accused of going on a shooting spree at an army base in Fort Hood, TX , was on orders to deploy with a Durham-based reserve unit.

Spokesman Wayne Hall said Sunday that Maj. Nidal Malik Hasan was scheduled to deploy with the 1493rd Medical (Combat Stress Control) Detachment. Additional details about the assignment were not released.
Meanwhile, Hasan remained hospitalized Sunday in Texas. He was taken off a ventilator on Saturday.
Hasan was shot during an exchange of gunfire during Thursday's attack. The military moved him on Friday to Brooke Medical Center in San Antonio, about 150 miles southwest of Fort Hood.
Thirteen people were killed and 29 others wounded in Thursday's attack at Fort Hood.
At least 17 victims remained hospitalized with gunshot wounds, and nine were in intensive care late Saturday. On Sunday, numerous church services honoring the victims were planned both on the post and in neighboring Killeen.
Military criminal investigators continue to refer to Hasan as the only suspect in the shootings but won't say when charges would be filed. "We have not established a motive for the shootings at this time," said Army Criminal Investigative Command spokesman Chris Grey.
A government official speaking on condition of anonymity because the person was not authorized to discuss the case said an initial review of Hasan's computer use has found no evidence of links to terror groups, or anyone who might have helped plan or push him toward the shooting attack. The review of Hasan's computer is continuing and more evidence could emerge, the official said.
Hasan likely would face military justice rather than federal criminal charges if investigators determine the violence was the work of just one person.
