Family and friends gathered Sunday at Cary's Wake Memorial Park to remember a slain Wake County mother.

Michelle Young, 29, was found beaten to death in her home on Nov. 3, 2006. At the time, she was pregnant. Daughter Cassidy, then 2, was by her side, unharmed.

With the third anniversary of Michelle Young’s death approaching, loved ones shared memories of her during a graveside memorial service.

“She was the glue that kept the group together. If there was an event, somebody had a birthday or was having a baby, she was the planner. She was the one that brought the group together,” friend Carol Nelson said.

After the remembrance, balloons were released in her honor.

Earlier this year, a Superior Court judge awarded Michelle Young's parents $15.5 million in damages in a wrongful death suit against her husband, Jason Young.

Michelle Young's mother, Linda Fisher, of Sayville, N.Y., filed the suit last year against her son-in-law. When Jason Young failed to respond to the civil claim against him, a judge ruled that he was responsible for Michelle Young's death.

No one has been charged in the slaying, but Jason Young has been named a suspect in the case.
