Posted — UpdatedDuke Urgent Care South, at 5716 Fayetteville Road, started administering the nasal spray beginning on Wednesday, said Melissa Schwarting, a spokeswoman for the Duke University Health System.
The state ordered 52,000 doses of FluMist last week, with the first shipments slated for health departments. The nasal vaccine is recommended only for healthy people ages 2 to 49.
Doses are being distributed across the state as they become available.
Wake County received about 3,500 doses; 500 of those will be reserved for EMS and health care workers, Health Director Sue Lynn Ledford said.
Doses are being sent to health department branches in Zebulon, Wake Forest and Fuquay-Varina.
FluMist will also be available at the Sunnybrook Health Building, at 10 Sunnybrook Road in Raleigh.
“We are going to prioritize children and also the caregivers of children that cannot receive the vaccine themselves,” Ledford said.
The Wake County Health Department will hold H1N1 flu vaccination clinics starting Thursday at four locations. The clinics will be held from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.
Clinics will be held Monday through Friday, as long as the vaccine remains in stock at the following locations:
10 Sunnybrook Road, Raleigh
130 N. Judd Parkway, Fuquay-Varina
350 East Holding Ave., Wake Forest
1002 Dogwood Drive, Zebulon
