— A 75-year-old woman who died Friday afternoon at a Coats gas station when a car backed over her was a retired school teacher, Coats United Methodist Church pastor Rev. Tony Joyner said.

The incident occurred at the Hess gas station at the intersection of N.C. Highway 27 and N.C. Highway 55 at about 3:30 p.m. Friday, authorities said.

Coats Police Chief Eddie Jaggers said Amanda Bailey Culross, 30, of Fuquay-Varina, was impaired when she backed up over the woman as she crossed the parking lot to pay for her gas.

Authorities have not released the victim's name but Joyner said Sunday that it was Joann A. Bacon, a member of his church.

Culross faces charges of second-degree murder, child abuse, contributing to the delinquency of a minor and DWI. She had three children in the car at the time, Jaggers said.

Culross was found guilty of DWI and failure to reduce speed in Wake County last year, according to court documents. She is appealing that decision.

Culross was released from jail early Saturday on a $101,000 secured bond. Her first court appearance is Monday.

There are two different fathers of these three children. The oldest child's father won primary custoday of her within the last year, but the mother still had visitation---much to the chagrin of the father's family. The oldest child's father is from a great family who have done everything that they could to shelter, love, and protect her. Hopefully, she will lose access to these children who certainly deserve better!

Ok a year ago she received a DWI & it is on appeal.Did she have a valid drivers license or was it revoked a year ago? Where was the father of these 3 kids or any other family members? I am sure this is not the first time in the past year this has happened.A Sunday afternoon @3:30 & she is drunk in a car with 3 kids & runs over an elderly lady. First of all the kids need to be removed from her care permantely. Second i hope & pray she gets time for this crime. It is evident she is a habitual drinker & driving a car drunk does not concern her one bit. Those kids will need some help to deal with what they saw. Now lets see how many of her family,& friends want to come forth & talk about what a good person she is!! Save your lies because your words are worthless. Make donations to the church the deceased lady belongs to. That is the best thing you could do & while there say a prayer for the kids. God knows what they have seen or been subject too.
