Elizabeth Edwards, wife of former presidential candidate and U.S. Sen. John Edwards, held a grand opening Saturday for her new Chapel Hill furniture store.

Red Window at 400 W. Rosemary St. is the achievement of a long time goal for Elizabeth Edwards.

“It sort of varied from what it was going to be, but probably for the past eight or nine years, I thought I'd like to eventually have a furniture store,” she said.

John Edwards also attended the store opening.

It was the first time the couple has been seen together publicly since sources told WRAL News that they expect John Edwards to announce he is the father of his former mistress' child.

John Edwards confessed last August to having an affair with Rielle Hunter, who served as a videographer on Edwards' 2008 campaign. He has denied fathering her daughter, saying his relationship with Hunter ended before the child was conceived.

The name of the girl's father isn't disclosed on her birth certificate.

When asked about the paternity reports, Elizabeth Edwards said Saturday that she and John are focused on their children and moving on with their lives.

“We have not been distracted too much by reports that we absolutely can not control. There's nothing we can do about them. All we can do is go about our own lives,” she said.

A federal grand jury is investigating whether Edwards' campaign funds were illegally paid to Hunter to keep quiet about the affair.

Elizabeth Edwards, who is terminally ill with cancer, was also asked about her prognosis.

“I seem to have it pretty much under control. I go on and get my medications periodically and doctors seem to think I'm doing well,” Elizabeth Edwards said.

Elizabeth Edwards' new store features folk art, lighting and accessories.

She wouldn't haven't to work if she would divorce her husband.

WRAL is monitoring posts that speak out against the Edwards family. Slanted newspaper, gestapo style news censoring... I am glad I have a reputable paper delivered here.

Is this really news? Looks more like a free advertisement/endorsement by WRAL.

I suspose that she wants something to do to occupy her time while she waits for her hubby in prison. Maybe they can adopt the child-- give it a loving stable home.

Talk about one tough lady--cannot have anything but total admiration and respect for her.. Wish her well.
