Father charged with kidnapping Durham infant

Keyon Jamel McClain

Durham police charged a 24-year-old man with breaking into his ex-girlfriend's house on Adams Street and kidnapping his 3-week-old son late Saturday.

Police said that Keyon Jamel McClain assaulted his ex-girlfriend and left with their child, Centurion Markey McClain, in a white 1997 Ford minivan. Authorities issued an Amber Alert for Centurion around midnight.

Early Sunday, officers found McClain and the infant at a relative's house in the 1100 block of Liberty Street. McClain was arrested without incident, police said.

Centurion was returned safely to his mother.

McClain was charged with one count each of second-degree kidnapping, felony breaking-and-entering and larceny and two counts of misdemeanor child abuse. He was being held Sunday in the Durham County Jail after being denied bond on one charge and granted a $250,000 bond on others.

According to state Department of Correction records, McClain was convicted of two counts of assault on a female and one count of communicating threats in 2004 and 2005.
