— Police are waiting for forensic results in the shooting death of a 67-year-old woman found shot in her driveway on Wednesday.

A man walking a dog early Wednesday found Paula Jean Anderson outside of her home at 1209 Boxwood Lane, police said. She later died at WakeMed

"We had somebody who heard a gunshot that we interviewed," said Apex police Capt. Ann Stephens. "And then somebody was walking their dog and actually saw the victim, and the person that was walking their dog is the person that actually called 911."

Police have recovered a handgun from the driveway.

"There is no danger to the public," Stephens said. "We feel like the person of interest we're speaking with knows the victim and is familiar with the victim, so we're not concerned that there are any public safety issues."

Anderson was married to Thomas Anderson, 91, and had one son in Raleigh, who has been notified, according to police. Wake County tax records show that the house where she lived belonged to her husband.

Neighbor Jennifer Austin said she would often see the couple coming and going from church.

"It's a very safe community. I've never felt any reason to be scared here," Austin said.

Investigators said Wednesday they were questioning a man of interest and that he knew Anderson.

Unfortunately, family from out of town looking for answers to what happened read these articles. This was a sad tragedy. Yes, Mr.Anderson is elderly and they were a loving couple. He does not have dementia or anything else reported or speculated here. There was not any violence involved between them, and because he is fragile the family is describing this to him as a tragic "accident". Imagine being awakened to this news from the police and then being termed a person of interest when you loved your spouse dearly. There is no other person of interest. Hopefully the police will make a statement to put all the suspicion to rest. This is not easy on the family and thank you to the ones who have been considerate to that fact and sensitive in choosing their comments.

redsoxfan8182- my condolences to you. And you are absolutely right. The truth needs to be made public, but by the APEX police. Only then will the press get the right information. WRAL - probe them for the truth and quit (and others) laying out innuendos that its the husband's fault. And no, he does NOT have Alzheimer and faces life without his wife now. Rest in peace, Jean -- you will be missed by your friends and family.

To WRAL, please, there are some news stories that should not be open for comment. This is certainly one of them.
To the family, my condolences. May your loved one rest in peace.
To some of you who are posting, you were not properly raised, or you really drifted.

My heart goes out to the family and this is just an example that crime is everywhere you go. I does not matter what side of town you live on. I just moved from Apex to Raleigh and it is quite different but you just have to pray for God's protection whether you live in Chapel Hill or in Southeast Raleigh. There is not a side of town that is any better than the other.

I pray you enough sun to keep your attitude bright no matter how gray the day may appear.

I pray you enough rain to appreciate the sun even more.

I pray you enough happiness to keep your spirit alive and everlasting.

I pray you enough pain so that even the smallest of joys in life may appear bigger..

I pray you enough gain to satisfy your wanting.

I pray you enough loss to appreciate all that you possess.

I pray you enough hellos to get you through the final good-bye.

Such a shame... I'll be curious to see how the husband's alzheimer's plays into all of this. What a horrible incident for their son, one parent murdered and the other in jail.
