Missing Rocky Mount woman found

Posted July 21, 2009

— Rocky Mount police said they have located a woman reported missing earlier Tuesday.

A friend told police that she last saw Mary Michelle Williams, 40, of 801 Long Ave., around 7 a.m. Sunday when Williams stopped by her home at 1606 Old Wilson Road to pick up the children.

The children, however, were staying with their babysitter, police said, at 808 S. Tillery St. Williams never arrived, and the friend called police after she became concerned.

Capt. Laura Fahnestock, commander of the police department's Criminal Investigations Division, said police located Williams just before 8 p.m. Tuesday.

She was unharmed and stated she did not want her family to be aware of her location, Fahnestock said.

Police said they will continue to investigate possible child neglect charges in regards to the welfare of Williams' children.

Williams case alerted some people in the area since she fit a similar description of several Rocky Mount women who have been reported missing in recent years, including five who were found dead in rural Edgecombe County over the past four years.

rebekah816, glad to see your second post. You mentioned the perp had changed his M.O. but looked like you hadn't seen the last few sentences of the article where she frequents various hotels and drug neighborhoods in the RM area.

grenlyn - "If it were my friend, she would never be left alone and out of harms way."

If you're visiting hotels for the reason we believe, you wouldn't be taking your friend along with you.

grenlyn - "If it were my friend, she would never be left alone and out of harms way."

I know what you're saying, but if a friend is over 18, it's hard to inhibit their movements or to demand to stay with them.

    Let's pray for her children.

    God bless.

"A friend reported to police that she last saw Mary Michelle Williams around 7 a.m. Sunday when Williams stopped by her home at 1606 Old Wilson Road.

Williams had stopped by the home to pick up her two children, who were at another residence at 808 S. Tillery St., police said. She never arrived, the friend reported."

Those are contradictory statements. It says "she last saw, she "stopped by the home" and then it says "she never arrived"

    Investigate the friend.

Praying for her safe return, and praying for her loved ones, especially her wee ones.

    God bless.

well, my post was cut - I'll try again....

Even after the knowledge of her frequenting hotels and drug areas, leaving her kids, and obviously if she frequents hotels she doesn't take the kids along - if they find her alive, they'll let her keep the kids.

Where is social services when you need them?

I think it is time to bring in the feds to help out over there. I know the locals are doing what they can, but additional manpowers will hopefully speed up the capture of the person or persons responsible.
