SHARPSBURG — Sharpsburg police said that a dispute between residents of two towns sparked a shooting Friday evening that has left a Wilson man fighting for his life.

Dispatchers got reports of a person with gunshot wounds on Armstrong Drive in Sharpsburg around 7:30 p.m. Officers found Brandon Reid Jones, 22, at that address. He had been shot multiple times, police said.

Investigators determined that the shooting had just occurred at 139 B St. and that Jones had then been moved about four blocks to Armstrong Drive.

Jones was airlifted to Pitt Memorial Hospital in Greenville to be treated for life-threatening injuries. Police said he was in critical condition Saturday.

Police said the shooting stemmed from an ongoing, month-long dispute between groups in Sharpsburg and Wilson. Warrants were pending against several suspects.

Police urged any witnesses to come forward.

Anyone with information about the shooting should call the Sharpsburg Police at 252-977-1098 or Nash County emergency officials at 911.

Sharpsburg and Wilson are about a dozen miles apart along U.S. Highway 301. Sharpsburg has a population of about 2,500, and Wilson has about 50,000 residents.
