A former teacher's assistant at a Durham elementary school faces obstruction of justice charges for allegedly contacting a student with whom she is accused of having sex.

Gina Marie Watring, 40, of 106 Cricket Ground, was first charged April 29 with two counts of first-degree sex offense with a child. Watring is accused of having sex with a student on April 10 and April 21.

She was released on a $200,000 unsecured bond and ordered not to contact the victim while awaiting trial.

On Saturday, Watring was arrested again and charged with obstructing justice.

According to the arrest warrant, Watring had contact with the student between June 29 and July 3. The warrant says that she gave the boy a cell phone without permission from his parents and exchanged messages and photos, along with handwritten notes.

Watring worked at Creekside Elementary School in Durham until her original arrest. According to an affidavit for a search warrant, the boy told Durham County Sheriff's Office investigators that he and Watring had intercourse twice at her home, according to the affidavit. School officials also discovered the sexual text messages between the two, the affidavit said.

Watring was being held in the Durham County Jail Sunday under a $100,000 secured bond. She is due in court Monday.

I am apalled that this situation is being minimized by referrring to it as the teacher's aide having "sex" with a student. Ten year olds don't have sex. This is a 40 year old woman who raped a prepubescent child. By continuing to contact him she has also shown herself to be a predator. She should not ever be allowed out in public again. This situation, as demonstrated by the child's subsequent behavior, has obviously messed up his life.

i am at a loss, as a parent of a young man who is 15, however at the age of 10 he had not even started puberty good, so what could this woman possibly want from a child this young, he has nothing to offer. This is just sick and dusgusting, and I a pray for the child and his family. If this were my son, she would need a good hospital and then the jail!

Kids often don't help matters. They think this is cool. I will not blame them though. As an adult, we need to use common sense. We have seen a lot of this in the last couple of years and it has become too commonplace. You would think they would see what is happening and not be tempted. Let our kids stay kids and lock all pedophiles up indefinitely.

Sad and disturbing. My condolences to the child and family who will have to deal with this stigma.

The woman who did this is seriously ill, and needs to be locked away for an extremely long time.

NUTCASE.
