Raleigh, N.C. — Raleigh police held an informational checkpoint Monday afternoon at the apartment complex where a woman was found dead over the weekend.
Officers have ruled the death of Patsy Eason Barefoot, 60, of 3939-133 Wake Forest Road, as suspicious, but they have not released the cause of her death.
Raleigh police continue probe in woman's death
Police found Barefoot dead inside her home at the Montecito Apartments Saturday morning after family members were unable to contact her.
In a 911 call released Monday, a female caller, presumably someone who works at the apartment complex, reported that another tenant called requesting someone check on Barefoot because no one answered the door.
"A lady just called me, and she says she checks on this tenant and that she knocked on the door and the tenant would never come to the door," the caller said.
A neighbor, who did not want to be identified, told WRAL News that she was awakened Friday night by a loud thumping coming from Barefoot’s apartment.
Investigators interviewed neighbors over the weekend and posted fliers in the neighborhood on Sunday. They were recanvassed the apartment complex and surrounding areas Monday afternoon in an effort to find clues in the case.
Barefoot's silver 2002 Ford Focus, with North Carolina license plate RNY-5847, is missing, and police ask anyone with information about the car's whereabouts or the case to call the Raleigh Police Department’s Detective Division at 919-996-3555 or Raleigh Crime Stoppers at 919-834-HELP.
