Wilson, N.C. — A Wilson restaurant is offering a special promotion this month to help customers struggling in the down economy. The Rib Hut at 3711C Peppermill Drive is letting diners pay what they want.
"People are amazed and shocked,” owner Michelle Lewis said. "There are some customers who are coming to dine here that don't know about the special and they are like, 'What? Is she crazy?'"
Lewis said she came up with the promotion, "Eat What You Want and Pay What's Fair," to help families enjoy a good meal out while not having to worry about the cost.
"It definitely helps with the economy they way it is," customer Mary Witherspoon said.
Instead of a check on Mondays, you get an envelope and what you put inside is up to you.
"A couple didn't leave anything except for a tip. But we have had some who leave above their bill. So it just all evens out," Lewis said.
The promotion ends next Monday, but Lewis said she is thinking about extending it due to the overwhelming response.
