— Authorities are investigating a shootout that took place early Sunday at America's Best Value Inn, 200 Parham Road in Henderson.

The Henderson Police Department got a call about the shooting at about 2 a.m., a spokesman said. A witness told WRAL that he heard several shots being fired.

“It sounded like people were banging on my door. Next thing I knew, people were just shooting in the hallways, everywhere. It was just, ‘Pow, pow, pow, pow.’ He shot off like 25 to 30 shots in the hallway,” witness William Cash said.

Henderson Police Lt. Pulley said David Hicks, 22, of Dick Faines Road, died from a gunshot wound.

Paramedics transported a 16-year-old and a 20-year-old to Maria Parham Medical Center.  One victim was treated and released.  The other victim was taken to another hospital where he was listed in good condition Sunday.

Pulley did not identify the injured victims. Police and sheriff's deputies were at the hotel Sunday continuing their investigation. They said weapons were recovered at the scene.

Funny how some people can take up for a low life no matter how low they go.

Psychobabble, who are you to judge anyone. You stated in your comment that the bystander had been convicted for armed robbery and contributing to the delinquency of a minor. Were you at these incidents when they took place? Do you really know what happened during those incidents? Regardless of your answers to those questions, the most important question is does anyone deserve to be shot at, murdered, or injured on purpose because of their past encounters? I’m sure you have wronged people in your life and mistreated people just as we all have. Whether you were convicted, charged, or in the state system doesn’t justify murder. Your way of thinking is exactly what is wrong with the world today. We cannot take justice into our own hands that is God's job. Also you stated that Vance County's workload would be lighter, how is that? Now you have a bystander dead, with two others injured with a murderer out on the loose so Vance County's workload has actually tripled.

That was a terrible comment to say about anyone!! We are talking about a child of God! I didnt read anywhere in the post where it said that this young man was an innocent bystander either. It is sad to say that some people like you are proud to get individuals off the streets by means of violence or even death. That is not the solution. When something like this happens, it is also not the end of the problem. Reprecussion and other violent acts tend to happen. I pray that one day all of the violence and hatred will end. If his mom gets on the 5pm news and does anything, that will be perfectly ok!! I am sure you will be there for your child no matter what decisions he/she makes in life. A real parent will always be there no matter what. A parent is suppose to intervene and try to guide the child down the right road. Now that young man is gone.. family members suffering.. the person who did it will hopefully go to jail.. which means he will be gone as well.. so both sides lost!

Well, Vance County's Probation workload just got one lighter. Seems this fine upstanding innocent bystander has been convicted for armed robbery and contributing to the delinquency of a minor. I'm sure AOC would have many more, that's just what Department of Corrections shows.

I bet his mama will be on by the 5 PM news telling everybody how good of a boy he was and that he would never hurt anybody.
