Many residents were forced to leave as the fire raged. Most were allowed back in by 5 a.m.

Sheet rock and the firefighters' quick response kept the fire from spreading further, officials said. The apartment complex does not have sprinklers.

There was no word on what caused the fire. No other information was available.

I wasn't aware fire could strike anything.

I thought all apartments were required to have a sprinkler system now...

I'll second that: thanks to the firefighters, police officers and Red Cross folks that came out this morning! I am a resident of that building; fortunately, on the opposite end. :) They not only controlled the fire quickly, but they were amazingly good at keeping all of us who were evacuated to the clubhouse informed with updates every few minutes. Very reassuring.
