— A Cabarrus County activity bus carrying 33 children and 12 adults flipped over Wednesday morning just west of center city Charlotte, WBTV reported.

Charlotte Fire Department spokesman Mark Basnight said the injuries do not appear to be serious. Ambulances took some of the students to local hospitals.

The accident happened around 10 a.m. in the southbound lanes of Interstate 77 between the exits for Morehead and Lasalle streets.

A Cabarrus County Schools spokeswoman said the students were from Cox Mill Elementary and were on their way to Camp Thunderbird in southwest Charlotte for an overnight field trip.

A man who drove by the scene told WBTV it appeared that the children were able to get off the bus using the emergency doors.

pleshy, children are far more likely to be killed in a passenger vehicle driven by their parents than on a school bus.

Here is a report with some numbers:

This is precisely why my parents drove me on every school trip until I got my driver's license and why I never rode a school bus to school. You are entrusting your children to the care of people who were unable to get a job doing anything other than drive a school bus, and then placing them in a steel tube with no safety equipment inside. Never, ever ride a school bus.

We need to get the a law passed against flipping buses with students on board. Problem solved.

It is sad that these kids had to endure this. I used to live there till the mid 80s and still have family there.

This highlights the reason why I am thankful McCrory lost the governor's race last year. I don't want the "profits above people" and "cut taxes despite the deteriating infrastructure" mentality to spread over the rest of the state. This, combined with their unregulated "let developers build what/where/when they want" mentality led to the nightmare that is a choked/unable to expand I-77, the neighborhood-killing 277, and an I-85 that demonstrates adding more lanes to a highway doesn't fix all of its problems.

Oh no, those poor kids! That had to have been truly terrifying for them. Hope they're all ok.

My guess would be those insane drivers driving on those absolutely horrid roads in Charlotte caused the accident. Talk about a poorly planned road system!

Flipped over or tipped over - big difference.
