Four injured in I-85 crash
Four people were hospitalized Thursday after an early morning wreck that closed Interstate 85 south in Durham County for about two hours.
Posted — UpdatedDURHAM, N.C. — Four people were hospitalized Thursday after an early-morning wreck that closed Interstate 85 south in Durham County for about two hours.
Authorities said Farooq Mirza, of New Jersey, lost control of his car just after 5 a.m. It hit the guardrail and stalled in the left lane.
As Mirza tried to get his wife, Taskeen Fatima, and 1-year-old daughter out of the car, a second vehicle, driven by Ronald Brown, of Pennsylvania, hit their car.
Troopers said Brown could not see Mirza's Toyota Camry in the dark and that no charges will be filed.
Mirza, his wife, his daughter and Brown and his passenger, a young girl, were being treated for their injuries Thursday afternoon at Duke University Hospital. None of their injuries were believed to be life-threatening, troopers said.
Lanes were closed on I-85 from Red Mill Road to Glenn School Road while emergency personnel and police cleared the scene. They re-opened just after 7:30 a.m.
