Raleigh police find body in car, deem death 'suspicious'

Raleigh police said a man found dead in a car Wednesday night was the victim of a homicide.

Someone called 911 around 10:30 p.m. and reported that the vehicle had crashed in a residential area in the 7200 block of Parott Drive in northeast Raleigh.

When officers arrived, they found that the 1996 Cadillac had hit a mailbox and ended up in a ditch. Calvin Eric Dae Jr, 21, was inside, police said.

Investigators on Thursday collected evidence near the area where the body was found, but authorities declined to provide any details.

A resident living in the neighborhood, who said he called 911, said he found a man lying in the front seat facing the back of the car. Blood was everywhere, he said, and the man was dead.

"It didn't look right to me," said the resident, who asked not to be identified. "From what I saw, the wreck and the car – I couldn’t tell where the blood came from."

Police ask that anyone with information about the case to contact the Raleigh Police Department at 919-996-3555 or Crime Stoppersa t 919-226-CRIME.

Did you not read that he was a victim of HOMICIDE? A young death isn't always linked to irresponsible drivers. This is a sad tragic story, so bite your tongue next time you decide to make your own conclusions.

QUOTE: I live up the road and saw the car in the ditch. There had to be at least 18 police, fire, ems people out there for hours. the detectives that rang my doorbell at 1:30 this morning said whatever happened, happened and then the car rolled in the ditch. This neighborhood used to be a great place to raise kids...now it has truly turned into the hood.

I'm very concerned about this as I live very near by as well. It just plain is DISGUSTING. I hope they reveal more information so that surrounding neighbors can hopefully have some peace. I'm afraid to go outside as of now with my baby! My prayers for the family involved.

Raleigh is turning into a warzone. At least we have a pretty downtown and that Riverwalk going in soon

This is in stark contrast to when they find a body in the trunk of a car and it's not suspicious?
