Durham police investigate robberies, shootings

Police were asking for information about three robberies that happened within two hours Sunday night in eastern Durham. Two people were shot and one was pistol-whipped during the incidents, police said. One man was killed.

DURHAM, N.C. — Police were asking for information about three robberies that happened within two hours Sunday night in eastern Durham.

Two people were shot and one was pistol-whipped during the incidents, police said. One man was killed.

In each case, the suspects were described as four Hispanic men in a large burgundy or dark-colored sedan similar to a Mercury Grand Marquis.

The first robbery happened shortly before 8 p.m. in the 700 block of North Guthrie Avenue. One person was shot and a second person was pistol-whipped.

About 15 minutes later, a man was beaten and robbed in the 1200 block of North Driver Street.

The third incident happened around 9:30 p.m. in an apartment complex at 219 South Alston Ave. Jose Alfredo Gonzales Medrano, 29, was shot inside his apartment. He died late Sunday, police said.
