Johnston County sheriff's deputies were investigating Sunday afternoon after two people were shot at about 4:30 p.m. at 4600 Little Creek Church Road, south of Clayton.

Witness Dorothy Durham said she was inside her house when she heard the gunshots.

"I heard something go 'pop, pop, pop,'" Durham said.

"There was a guy in the ditch, face down, (and) he had some drugs in one hand and a big gun in another one," witness Amy Jones said. "He just kept jerking, he was jerking and his hand was on the trigger so everyone was scared that he might accidentally shoot somebody."

Paramedics took Quamayne Pennyfeather, 17, found in a ditch, by ambulance to WakeMed. Another witness said Pennyfeather was thrown into the ditch from a blue Chevrolet Caprice.

Deputies say two vehicles were involved in the shootings. Law enforcement chased one of the cars to Johnston Memorial Hospital, where they found the other victim, Gregory Lamont Hinton Jr., 24, inside the Chevrolet.

Both men were listed in critical condition Monday, according to a spokesperson for the sheriff's office.

The shootings remained under investigation. Deputies said they were still looking for the second vehicle.  It was described as a older-model, four-door, dark-colored sedan.

Anyone with information about the incident was asked to call the sheriff's office at 919-989-5010.

Lets see what happens with them when they get out of the hospital. If you do not know this we the working people will have to probally pay for their hospital care, then if they apply they will probally get disability checks for the rest of their life. Yes thats right disability from DSS or SS now tell me how thats fair or right. How do I know this becuase I have seen several subjects that have been shot with no visible disabilities walking around and living well that get checks because they were shot. I am glad neither of the children were innocent victims due to the adults they were with, and i am glad no one in the neighborhood was injured due to this act.

It was chaotic at the scene, luckily the children were not hurt in any way.

Thank goodness no innocent bi-stander was hurt.

Hard to feel sorry for anyone involved. If you're involved in anything illegal, or involved with people of this caliber, you'll never get sorrow or a tear from me. You deserve anything that comes your way.

ABC11 has the exclusive - three very cute small children were in the suspect's car that was chased with the rear window shot out.
