Rocky Mount, N.C. — Police were investigating skeletal remains found Friday along Melton Drive in Rocky Mount.
City personnel on clean-up duty found the human remains just before noon near a wooded area, police said.
Staff from the state medical examiner's office helped police recover and process the remains. Officials have not released any additional information.

Rocky Mount city workers cleaning up debris this morning along Melton Drive discovered what appears to be human remains, authorities said.
Rocky Mount police said work crews discovered skeletal remains at 11 a.m. while cleaning up debris and tree limbs on the 300 block of Melton Drive.
Police are calling the discovery a suspicious death and have launched an investigation.
Authorities said medical examiners from Chapel Hill are responding to the scene to assist with recovering and processing the remains.
More information is expected to be released as to the possible identity of the remains early next week, police said.
