Cumberland library won't reopen until at least mid-March

Library officials are waiting for new carpeting, air quality testing.

FAYETTEVILLE, N.C. — Cumberland County library officials said Thursday it will be several more weeks before the Headquarters branch reopens.

The earliest the main library could open would be in mid-March, according to communications director Sally Shutt.

Workers are waiting to install new carpeting, which is due to arrive in about four weeks. Books will have to be re-shelved and air quality testing completed before the branch reopens to the public.

An electrical fire last October caused damage to the first and second floors of the building, located on Maiden Lane in downtown Fayetteville.
