CLAYTON, N.C. — Johnston County sheriff's investigators say a fatal shooting at a home near Clayton Sunday night was the result of a domestic dispute.

Deputies were called to a residence at 2760 Castleberry Road around 9:30 p.m. Sunday, where they found Richard Charlton, 35, dead.

Authorities said Charlton was at home with his girlfriend, Kristy Brown, 39, when her ex-boyfriend, Michael Sistler, stormed into the house with a gun.

Charlton and Sistler both exchanged gunfire. Charlton died at the scene; Sistler was taken to WakeMed in Raleigh, where he was in fair condition Monday evening. Investigators are not sure who fired shots first.

Sistler, 40, of 1001 Wendell Road, Wendell, faces one count of first-degree murder and one count of first-degree burglary.
