GARNER, N.C. — A Garner woman single-handedly cooked enough meals this Christmas to feed 200 people.

“I've never really seen a stranger,” Barbara Tart said.

Tart says she likes to spend her Christmas feeding anyone who wants a meal.

“Everybody is given a gift and mine was to cook and to feed people,” Barbara Tart said.

For six years, Tart has cooked Christmas meals with food that is mostly donated.

Her daughter, Roxanne, helps serve the meals.

“We've had people come downtown and stop, driving brand new Cadillacs and Mercedes and they get out and get in line,” Roxanne Tart said.

The Tarts say it is their calling to do this. They wants others to feel like they are family.

The Tarts are “very cordial people. Somebody who you don't mind shaking their hand,” Herb Liebsch said as he took part in the Christmas dinner.

When the Tarts run out of mouths to feed in one spot, they find another. They packed up food and traveled to Moore Square in Raleigh Thursday to feed a new group of people.

Cooking this much food isn't unusual for Barbara Tart. She says she cooks for 100 people every week and feeds them in Moore Square on Sunday afternoons.
