Police search for missing Fayetteville woman

Officers fanned out into five two-person teams to canvass an area along Murchison Road, where someone reported seeing Theresa Blue on Saturday.

Theresa Blue, who lives on Elliott Circle near the search area, was last seen by her husband, Moses, last Friday morning. He came home and found the doors open and his wife gone.

"I guess she was sweeping the floor and took the brook with her," Moses Blue said.

Moses Blue said his wife has Alzheimer's and has wandered off in the past, but she has never been gone this long. He searched that weekend for her, "but I come up with nothing," he said.

On Monday, Moses Blue walked several miles to the police department – he doesn't have a car – and reported his wife missing.

A cafeteria worker at Fayetteville State University told police that Theresa Blue was trying to get food at the cafeteria last Friday. They said she knew her name but had no identification and couldn't say where she lived.

"The Fayetteville State officer said she was extremely friendly, very much a people person," Theresa Chance, a Fayetteville police spokeswoman, said.

Someone from the university took her to the Salvation Army shelter on Alexander Street, but she walked off when she was briefly left alone during processing, police said.

Police issued a Silver Alert for Theresa Blue Friday. The alert would have been issued earlier in the week but Fayetteville Police said there was a delay as officials waited for Moses Blue to sign the needed paperwork. Moses Blue, who is described as having symptoms of dementia, was driven to the police station by his pastor on Friday to sign the papers.

Moses Blue said it pains him to think of his wife out alone in the elements.

"What bothers me is not food, no clothes or whatever. No where to sleep at all," Moses Blue said. "I miss her. I don't know where she's at, but I want her home."

Theresa Blue is described as a dark-skinned black woman who is 5 feet, 4 inches tall and weights about 98 pounds. She has short black hair and brown eyes and has a scar on her back. She was last seen wearing a red-and-white striped blouse and a blue skirt, and police said she might be carrying a small brown purse and a broom stick.

During Friday's search, officers and Theresa Blue's family and friends went door to door to distribute pictures of her.
