ROANOKE RAPIDS, N.C. — A Roanoke Rapids woman stabbed her husband several times, killing him after an argument Friday, according to the Halifax County Sheriff's Office.

Rosa and Jerry Wayne Hawkins began to argue at a friend's house near the Roanoke Rapids airport, Detective R. Rooks said. At some point, Rosa Hawkins grabbed a knife and stabbed her husband, authorities said.

Jerry Hawkins managed to get out of the house and went to the home of a neighbor, who called 911, Rooks said.

Jerry Hawkins was transported to Halifax Regional Medical Center, but died there.

Deputies B. Griffin and R. Williams located Rosa Hawkins at her home and arrested her, Rooks said.

Rosa Hawkins was charged with first-degree murder and placed in the Halifax County Jail without bond. Her first court appearance was set for Nov. 5.

Jerry and Rosa Hawkins lived together in a Roanoke Rapids home, Rooks said.
