After car-train collision, family victimized again
Someone robbed the home of the Princeton family killed in a collision with a train, police said.
Posted — UpdatedBrannon Worth Brady, 25, and Crystal Lee Higgins, 22, died Aug. 29 while trying to cross the railroad tracks at Herring Road. Their son, Sklyar, died at WakeMed the next day.
Less than three weeks after the wreck, Ricky Brady discovered someone had robbed his son's home. Brannon Brady lived there with Higgins and their infant son.
Lt. Jeff Caldwell, of the Johnston County Sheriff’s Office, said someone apparently disabled the motion-sensor lights outside the home and entered through a back door. The thief took almost $2,000 worth of electronics.
Caldwell said police believe the burglar knew the couple, and knew of their recent death.
Landlord Elbert Fitzgerald said that break-ins have been a problem lately. He suspects this robbery is the work of thieves who have repeatedly targeted homes on Herring Road.
Caldwell said deputies have "persons of interest" in the case and that the investigation is ongoing.
His colleagues are motivated to catch the thief.
"To believe that someone would prey upon a family that's been through so much already, ... it sparks a special interest in the sheriff's office," Caldwell said.
