— A Sanford man suspected of killing a 19-year-old Friday morning in a hit-and-run surrendered to authorities Friday evening.

Authorities received a call at 9:41 a.m. Friday of a body found near Hickory House and Westchester roads, five miles south of Sanford.

The victim was identified as Corey Nicholas Repko.

Sgt. A.W. Waddell of the state Highway Patrol said Repko called his mother Thursday at 8:30 p.m. to tell her he was walking home. Waddell said he was unsure where Repko was coming from or what time he was hit and killed.

David Ricky King Jr., 21, surrendered at the Lee County Sheriff's Office and was charged with felony hit-and-run and voluntary manslaughter, authorities said.

Investigators impounded King's 2004 GMC pickup to collect evidence.

Teacher-mom, Sanford is relatively small and the particular area this ocurred in is rural. It is also usually safe and family oriented.

There is no "bus" here in Sanford. Just some "COLTS" junk that drives around broken down vans.

  • teacher-mom Sep 5, 2008

I have seen some pitiful situations. People expected to come to classes with no car. The bus costs $1 each way. This should not be happening in America. My heart goes out to this family.

I'm sorry for the loss the victim's family and friends feel at this time. I am prayerful for their comfort during this time of sadness.

I am glad they know who did it. I hope it was not a DWI. What a shame. Two lives ruined.

RIP Corey, you were a great friend.

I still can't believe this happened to him, I drove by his house this afternoon before I found this out. I drove by the site about 20 min ago, and I can't believe he was only a mile from his house.

I hope they find out who did it, they took a brother, a son, and a friend off this earth.

This was my cousin that this happened to. As a Sheriff Deputy myself I am glad to see that this man was caught. It is correct that it can be a pedestrians fault but in any case never should the driver leave a scene of an accident especially when someone's life is at risk. I do hope the person who did this will at least apologize to my family for not reporting this and leaving the scene. My family can now at least have some closure to this. Rest in Peace Corey! We Loved you
