Woman pleads guilty to assault in castration case

Posted August 25, 2008

— A Harnett County woman pleaded guilty Monday to assault in the castration of a man at a Christmas party two years ago.

Rebecca Dawson, 36, pleaded guilty to assault inflicting serious injury, a misdemeanor. She had been charged with malicious castration, a felony.

A jury deadlocked in the case last December, and a second trial was scheduled to begin Monday when the plea deal was reached.

Dawson was accused of using her fingernails to tear off Kevin Russ' scrotum at a Christmas party in 2006.

Prosecutors said Russ, 40, and Dawson were drinking at the party and got into a fight.

Russ said he was trying to keep Dawson from driving home because she had too much to drink when she clawed his face and grabbed his scrotum. The defense contended Dawson acted in self defense because she was being held after Russ wanted her to have sex with him and his girlfriend.

Dawson received a 75-day suspended jail sentence and was placed on 18 months of supervised probation. She was ordered not to drink alcohol while on probation, and she must complete an anger management course.

His kohiba's must of been bare and dangling....maybe he should of kept his tight undies on and not try to assault a woman. It could of been alot worse...her last name could be Bobbitt

OK... Now I am going to go buck wild like a lot of posters and say "GIVE HER THE DEATH PENALTY!!!" A death sentence should be the minimum punishment for ripping the scroat. Damage to the taint, likewise, should buy you life in prison with no possibility of parole.

Were his pants on or off during the attack, wouldn't that answer the big question about whether it was self defense or not?

such double standards... He'd be doing time if he inflicted any injury on her - much less ripping into private parts. Isn't that sexual assault as well? That's a pretty vicious assault if you ask me - she's a violent criminal and should do a few weekends in the clink.-mstephens.

I agree. Ripping someone's testicles off deserves a little more than some probation. I got 36 months probation one time for petty larceny when I was a young, stupid teenager with no priors. What type of sentence do you think a man would have gotten for viciously tearing a woman's genatailia with his bare hands? I would want someone like that under the jail, wouldn't you?!

I doubt any guy in the same position would have done anything... I have a friend that was accidentally castrated and he passed out immediately afterwards. long story short... Chick on skates runs over family jewels... Makes for a BAD story, and tons of jokes for years to come. :|
