SCOTLAND NECK, N.C. — Halifax County deputies believe Jamela Monet Bryant is not in any danger, they said Thursday after the girl made contact with friends and family.

However, deputies continue to search for the missing 16-year-old girl, whom they believe might be in the Oak City or Rocky Mount area. Bryant refused on Thursday to go home or to talk to law enforcement officers, they said.

Bryant was reported missing Wednesday night. She was last seen wearing a zip-up burgundy hoodie with a burgundy T-shirt, blue jeans and white-and-blue tennis shoes.

She has medium brown skin and is 5 feet 6 inches tall and weighs 140 pounds.

Anyone with information about Jamela’s whereabouts is asked to call the Halifax County Sheriff’s Office at 252-583-8201 or  252-583-1991 or the Halifax County Crime Stoppers at 252-583-4444.
