Highway Patrol pulled over a bus suspected of carrying illegal immigrants in Alamance County Wednesday.
Highway Patrol pulled over a bus suspected of carrying illegal immigrants in Alamance County Wednesday.

Officials are investigating a bus pulled over for safety violations Wednesday afternoon at a weigh station near the merger of Interstate 40 and Interstate 85, the Highway Patrol said.

The bus, traveling from Wilson to Mexico, was stopped at mile marker 143 because a suspension problem was noticed with the bus.

Officials are checking the documentation of some people on the bus who did not produce passports. Interpreters were brought to the scene to help police communicate with the 15 to 20  Spanish-speaking passengers.

The bus was towed from the scene and passengers were placed on another bus.

The Highway Patrol had been made aware by the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration that illegal immigrants were being taken to certain destinations in the country. The bus originally was believed to be apart of that group.

Federal authorities are investigating whether the bus was connected to Iguala BusMex and Angel Tours Inc., which were ordered by the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration to cease commercial operations after an accident in Texas.

This is an updated article that provides further info about some of the passengers of the bus.

Wow. How transparent the 5:00 news report was. A trooper was selected to speak on the reasons why the bus was stopped. He was of obvious Hispanic ethnicicity. His comments were that the bus was stopped for safety reasons (bus - mechanical related issues)and their concerns were for the safety of the bus occupants. So, how did immigration issues surface? Nice try for a cover-up.

-he had 30 years of experience doing heating and air, and he was offered $12/hr. because of the wages being driven down. +

Should have learned how to better market himself

you need a SSN# to pay taxes....

No you don't need a social security number to pay taxes...They can have a ITIN (Taxpayer ID Number) and have taxes withheld from their pay.

and you dont need an SSN# to pay sales tax property tax etc...
